How on Earth did you end up here?  How did I end up here for that matter?

Well, since we are here, lets grab a cup of coffee and I'll tell you a little about myself.  You can call me Melissa, but I also answer to Mom, Honey, Mrs. Barrett, Hey You!, and several far less appealing names.  I will answer to Missy, but only if you are under the age of 8 or have given birth to me.

I live in a little town in rural West Virginia- which leaves me with two possible hobbies to explore. Since I feel cows are best left upright, that leaves writing. I've actually managed to turn that hobby into a somewhat productive career by writing content for websites as well as dabbling in print publications.

 I don't do poetry anymore. To paraphrase Sir Terry Pratchett, I feel that anyone espying a fair young maiden one morning in May is entitled to take whatever steps they consider appropriate without someone writing it down. Especially me.

My work for hire is generally excessively dry and technical, but what I write on my own-both on HubPages and on various other places across the web- is generally about subjects I feel passionate about, am interested in or about which I have personal knowledge to share. Most of the time that equates to parenting, special needs children, herbology or animal rights.  Occasionally, though something random might run across my keyboard and onto someone's monitor.  I apologize if those random thoughts leave any philosophical droppings.
